What is "Homes and Gardens of the Pacific Coast?"

In 1913 the Beaux Arts Society, an artisan colony on the east side of Lake Washington, created two books showing residences of citizens in two Pacific Coast cities--Seattle and Los Angeles. No doubt designed as money-raisers, the books carried one or multiple pages of photos for a given residence, along with an accompanying text pointing to the architectural features being presented. Below is an image of the cover page from one of these books.

The Seattle book original cover was a dark brown leather, and the book size was slightly larger than today's 8.5 X 11 in. standard. Two later editions have been made, one in 1974 was published by Christopher Laughlin as part of the Historic Preservation Committee of Allied Arts of Seattle, and the second was published as a fund-raiser for the Queen Anne Historical Society in 1989.

The latter two editions are sometimes available on used-book sites on the web.

Your author will be posting from this book some time in the future (after he completes his efforts on L.A.). In the meantime, a large excerpt of the book is posted here.
